The Juniper MX204 Universal Routing Platform is a high-performance, fixed-configuration 1RU router designed for service provider, cloud, and enterprise networks. It delivers 400 Gbps routing capacity with 8x SFP+ ports and 4x QSFP+ ports supporting 10GbE/40GbE/100GbE configurations via channelization. Powered by Junos OS, it offers advanced routing features including full table BGP, MPLS, segment routing, and EVPN-VXLAN for modern data center and aggregation deployments.
Hardware Specifications
MX204 features a compact 1U chassis (1.72 in height, 17.6 in width, 18.5 in depth) weighing up to 23.15 lb fully loaded. It supports front-to-back airflow with 3 hot-swappable fan modules (JNP-FAN-1RU). Dual redundant PSUs (1+1) provide up to 280W max power consumption (240W average). Equipped with 1.6-GHz Intel 8-Core x86 CPU, 32 GB DRAM, and 200 GB SSD storage.
Architecture & Performance
Delivering 400 Gbps system throughput and 0.9 W/Gbps efficiency, the MX204 supports precise timing interfaces including 10 MHz, BITS, PPS, PTP, and ToD ports. Management options include RJ-45 console, RJ-45 management, and USB Type A ports. Ideal for edge routing, peering, and 5G transport with low power and high density.
