The Cisco A9K-NVSAT20-LIC is the NV Host License for up to 20 nV Clients, a feature license for the Cisco ASR 9000 Series, particularly the compact ASR 9903 Router. This license activates advanced network virtualization capabilities, allowing seamless integration with the high-performance routing platform that delivers up to 3.6 Tbps of nonblocking, full-duplex capacity in a 3RU form factor.

Part of the Cisco ASR 9000 Series, the Cisco ASR 9903 Router is based on the Cisco IOS XR software image, providing the same features and services across the series for standardized operations. It supports multiple port rates including 400 Gigabit Ethernet, 200 Gigabit Ethernet, 100 Gigabit Ethernet, 40 Gigabit Ethernet, 25 Gigabit Ethernet, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, offering flexibility to mix and match interfaces. The platform serves diverse use cases such as business PE, metro aggregation, cloud edge, Internet peering, Data Center Interconnect (DCI), mobile edge for 4G/5G networks, enterprise border routing, and ISP peering.

The ASR 9903 features a power-optimized architecture with high-density multi-rate ports and super service scales to reduce CapEx and OpEx while ensuring predictable, flexible service infrastructure. It includes two redundant Route Processors (RPs), two integrated switch fabrics, 4 AC or DC power supply modules, and 4 fans in redundant configuration. The fixed board supports 16 integrated QSFP28-based 100GE ports and 20 integrated SFP+-based 10GE ports, with maximum 1.6T data bandwidth. Port combinations include 16x100GE, 15x100GE + 10x10GE, or 14x100GE + 20x10GE.

The Route Processor is service edge-optimized with a 64-bit Intel CPU and 32GB memory. Front panel interfaces include console and auxiliary serial ports, two management Ethernet interfaces, a Class A USB port, GPS interface (10MHz, 1PPS, ToD ports), and two BITS interfaces.

Optional Port Expansion Cards (PECs) enhance capacity: The A9903-20HG-PEC provides 20 ports with 2T bandwidth, including 5 QSFP-DD ports (400GE/200GE/100GE multi-rate, migratable to 400GE via license) and 15 QSFP28 100GE ports. The A9903-8HG-PEC offers 48 ports with 800G bandwidth, including 32 SFP28/ SFP+ 25GE/10GE ports and 16 SFP+ 10GE ports. All transceivers applicable to ASR 9903 are compatible across ASR 9000 modular chassis. QSFP-DD optics match QSFP28 mechanically, supporting breakout to 25GE/10GE, 40GE, 100GE, 200GE, or 400GE for migration.

The platform supports carrier-class OAM with NetFlow, IEEE 802.1ag, IEEE 802.3ah, ITU Y.1731, IP SLA, VCCV, ping, and traceroute. Timing includes hardware-based IEEE 1588, GPS/BITS, SyncE, and PTP Telecom profiles (G.8265.1, G.8275.1, G.8275.2). It runs Cisco IOS XR Software (64-bit), modular, patchable, scalable, highly available, proven for carrier core and edge. Supported from IOS XR Release 7.1.25.

Available in service edge variant with feature licenses like A9K-NVSAT20-LIC to enable specific capabilities. Fully redundant: two RPs, two fabrics, 4+ power supplies, 4 fans.
