The Juniper QFX10016-BASE is the base configuration of the QFX10016 modular Ethernet switch, offering 96 Tbps of throughput and 32 Bpps forwarding capacity in a 21 RU chassis. It provides a strong underlay foundation for high-performance IP fabrics, EVPN-VXLAN overlays, and data center interconnects. Front-to-back airflow (AFO) ensures efficient cooling. Key components include chassis, one Routing and Control Board (RCB/QFX10000-RE), five Switch Fabric Boards (SFB/QFX10016-SF), two fan trays (QFX10016-FAN), two fan tray controllers (QFX10016-FAN-CTRL), and five AC power supplies (QFX10000-PWR-AC).

Architecture & Performance

Built with 16 line card slots supporting line-rate 10GbE, 40GbE, and 100GbE ports via QSFP+/QSFP28 transceivers. Switch Interface Boards (SIBs) deliver 96 Tbps switching capacity with VoQ architecture to prevent head-of-line blocking. Scale includes 2M IPv4/IPv6 FIB routes, 1M MAC addresses, 1000 VLANs, 1000 VXLAN tunnels, 1000 LAGs, and deep buffers up to 100 ms per port. Supports jumbo frames up to 9216 bytes, 8 output queues per port, MPLS L3 VPNs, and firewall filters/policers.

Logical scale: 1 million MAC addresses, 2 million host routes, 2 million FIB. Deployable in IP fabrics, EVPN-VXLAN for L2/L3, DC edge, and DCI.

Hardware Components

Chassis: 21 U (36.6 in H x 17.4 in W x 35 in D), weight 220 lb (spare)/522 lb (shipped)/938 lb fully loaded. Modular design with hot-swappable FRUs.

Line Cards (sold separately): QFX10000-30C (30×100/40GbE), QFX10000-30C-M (MACsec), QFX10000-36Q (36x40GbE/12x100GbE), QFX10000-60S-6Q (60×1/10GbE + 6×40/2x100GbE), QFX10K-12C-DWDM.
